Mbalula files to overturn Eastern Cape ANC conference ruling

African National Congress Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has applied to the Eastern Cape High Court to rescind a ruling that halted the party's provincial conference in March.

Mbalula filed the application on the grounds that the original court submission by disgruntled ANC members was fraudulent. He stated that the group had not exhausted internal ANC processes before approaching the court.

A group of members had cited alleged irregularities and unresolved internal disputes when seeking to stop the conference. The court ruled in their favour, halting the event.

A Provincial Task Team has been appointed in the province following the expiry of the Provincial Executive Committee term.

South Africa's Constitutional Court has ruled that Parliament acted unconstitutionally by blocking an impeachment inquiry into President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2022. The decision requires the National Assembly to establish an impeachment committee to examine the Phala Phala matter. Opposition parties immediately called for the president's resignation.

The African National Congress (ANC) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to members holding dual affiliations with the South African Communist Party (SACP), requiring them to declare their campaigning intentions ahead of local government elections. ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula described the move as a practical measure to ensure clarity and discipline, while SACP leader Solly Mapaila called it an intimidation tactic.
