New clash emerges over road referendum wording in Leksand

The municipal board in Leksand has presented a proposal on how to phrase the question for the autumn referendum on private roads. The proposal faces sharp criticism from the Bygdepartiet party which claims it deviates from the citizen initiative's purpose.

The municipal board's proposal includes four answer options that focus on support for private roads. This differs from the yes or no question originally suggested by the road group about municipal responsibility for the roads.

Johan Fändriks from Bygdepartiet criticizes the proposal and says it is about justifying their own position. He plans to sketch his own proposal with the same intent as the citizen initiative.

Sebastian Larsson from the Moderates defends the wording. He points out that the term municipal road maintenance lacks a established definition and can create varying expectations.

A decision on the exact phrasing of the question will be made at the municipal council on May 25 to allow time to involve the Election Authority.

The decision stems from estimated cancellation costs of 3.8 to 4.2 billion kronor. Oppositionsråd Ehsan Nasari (C) stated that scrapping the whole project is no longer economically defensible.
