Noah Kahan backs Massachusetts bill limiting ticket resale prices

Musician Noah Kahan has voiced support for a new Massachusetts bill that would cap ticket resale prices and prohibit speculative sales. Governor Maura Healey announced the measure, called the Great Divide Act, during a press conference on Thursday. The proposal follows similar efforts in other states and aims to address high costs for fans.

Kahan appeared via video at the Thursday press conference. He praised the legislation and said it would benefit artists and fans by limiting scalping and speculative tickets. "I love my fans and want to protect them however I can," Kahan stated.

The bill would cap secondary-market concert tickets at 110 percent of face value. Secondary sites would be limited to a 10 percent cut. It also bans speculative ticket sales, a practice that left fans without tickets at recent World Cup events at Gillette Stadium.

Healey said the measure responds to residents facing inflated resale prices and fees. The legislation draws its name from Kahan’s latest album and follows his prior support for a comparable bill in Vermont.
