Interior Subsecretary Máximo Pavez said the issue of pardons carries strong political weight and avoided defining a government position on a bill pushed by parliamentarians.
In an interview with Estado Nacional on TVN, Pavez noted that several years after October 18 it is possible to review with greater distance the political and penal responsibilities established during that period.
Pavez explained there are two paths: the particular pardon the President can grant under legal conditions, and the general pardon that requires legislative processing.
The subsecretary stated the government will have to follow the discussion attentively if pushed by parliamentarians and that the President will make the final decision after exhaustive analysis.
