Philippines and ILO reaffirm partnership

The Philippines and the International Labour Organization have reaffirmed their continued partnership in support of decent work and social justice during a meeting in Geneva.

On July 2, Ambassador Carlos Sorreta met ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo at the organization's headquarters. He outlined Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino's priorities, including preparing the workforce for the future of work, strengthening social protection, and promoting safe workplaces.

These priorities align with the agenda of the 115th International Labour Conference scheduled for June 2027, which will address chemical hazards, social security, and technology's role in economic transformation.

Domestic processes are underway for the Philippines to ratify ILO Convention 155 on Occupational Safety and Health of 1981. Completion would mean the country has ratified all 10 fundamental ILO Conventions, a status achieved by only two other Asia-Pacific nations.
