Police to use drones for camera surveillance in Leksand during Midsummer

The police authority has decided to monitor parts of Leksand with drones during the Midsummer weekend from 18 to 21 June 2026.

The surveillance will run from Thursday 18 June at 17:00 to Sunday 21 June at 05:00. The aim is to prevent crime and disturbances of public order in a location where there is a risk of attacks on life, health or property.

The drones may be used in places open to the public. The police may not film inside homes or other privacy-sensitive areas. Footage can be used as evidence in investigations.

The decision is based on the interest of surveillance outweighing the individual's interest in not being monitored. The drones normally fly at high altitudes where no personal identification occurs.
