Poof Doof launches record label with Jimi the Kween single

Poof Doof, the Australian queer events brand, has launched Poof Doof Records with its first release, Jimi the Kween's 'All I Need,' set for April 23. The label aims to nurture queer talent, building on the company's 15-year history. Founder Anthony 'Hockers' Hocking described it as a natural progression.

Sydney, Australia -- Poof Doof Records marks a new chapter for the queer nightlife brand started in Melbourne in 2011 by Anthony “Hockers” Hocking. The label's debut single, “All I Need” by resident artist and drag queen Jimi the Kween, arrives Thursday. Distribution comes via AWAL Records, with partnerships including Positive Feedback and Powerhouse Management; John Davis serves as creative director and festivals co-ordinator. Submissions are open initially at music@poofdoofrecords.com, with plans to shift to a traditional A&R model for emerging queer talent, Davis said. Hocking told Billboard the venture had been on his mind for years after watching young queer artists perform at Poof Doof events. 'We built up the community,' he said. The label welcomes a broad sonic palette, from house and techno to pop, unified by a joyful queer perspective. 'If the music’s good, if the songs are good, we’ll put it out,' Hocking added. Jimi the Kween said the track's title reflects its core message. 'All you really need is the people that love and support you around to lift you up and have a really good time,' she told Billboard. 'It’s centered on being around like-minded humans and celebrating each other.' Davis emphasized the brand's focus on 'queer joy' and inclusivity across events like Sydney Mardi Gras parties and festivals such as Splendour in the Grass. The launch precedes Global Pride Month in June and WorldPride 2026 in Amsterdam from July 25 to August 8, where Poof Doof plans parties. Hocking noted the timing suits the 'feel good song' amid global challenges.
