PS Esther Muoria turns to local chiefs to connect rural youth with TVET programmes

Technical and Vocational Education and Training PS Esther Muoria has urged closer work with local officials to reach young people in villages for skills training. The move aims to ensure rural youth access short courses that lead to certificates and jobs. It follows a government plan to merge National Youth Service and TVET operations.

PS Esther Muoria called for talks with National Government Administration Officers to identify and enrol rural youth in TVET programmes. She noted that officers know village locations and can help bring young people on board.

Training lasts three to six months and leads to a certificate for the job market. The system allows learners to work and later upgrade qualifications up to PhD level through the Kenya Credit Accumulation and Transfer Policy.

The initiative follows a plan announced by CS Geoffrey Ruku to merge National Youth Service and TVET operations. Officials say the merger will give trainees industry-relevant skills.
