Swedish Gripen jets meet Russian bombers over Baltic Sea

Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters were sent up to meet Russian Tu-22M3 bombers over the Baltic Sea on Tuesday morning, the Swedish Armed Forces stated.

The Russian bombers were identified over international waters. The Swedish Armed Forces did not comment on the exact location of the encounter.

"It is a signal we are sending. We show that we have seen them", said Swedish Armed Forces spokesperson Mikael Ågren.

The information was provided by the Swedish Armed Forces to Expressen on Tuesday.
