UniCauca strengthens its cultural and peace project ahead of bicentenary

The Universidad del Cauca is coordinating cultural initiatives to integrate territorial diversity and promote coexistence in southwestern Colombia.

The institution advances toward its bicentenary with the Institutional Development Plan 2023-2027. This plan recognizes culture as a core element to strengthen identities and knowledge of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendant communities and other groups in Cauca.

The Artes para la Paz program, launched in October 2025, incorporates dance, theater, creative writing and audiovisual arts. It projects to benefit 54,700 girls, boys, adolescents and youth in 320 educational institutions across 99 municipalities in Cauca, Huila and Nariño, supported by 557 training artists.

The eighth edition of Popayán Ciudad Libro 2025 gathered more than 12,400 people in 120 academic and literary activities. The Posteris Lvmen editorial collection now totals 65 titles, aiming for 100 by 2027.

Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera stated that culture allows building the future from diversity. Vice rector Pedro Aníbal Yanza Mera emphasized recognition of each territory's own ways of narrating and creating.
