The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Saturday. Cam Schlittler allowed two early home runs but pitched 6 2/3 innings to keep his team in the game.
Schlittler surrendered solo homers to James Wood and Curtis Mead in the first inning. He then settled in and permitted only two more singles while issuing four walks and striking out six.
The Yankees took the lead in the eighth inning. Ryan McMahon hit a solo homer, Trent Grisham followed with a two-run blast, and Paul Goldschmidt added a solo shot.
Manager Aaron Boone praised the late at-bats. Schlittler noted he made adjustments after the early damage and felt he battled through the outing.
All nine Yankees runs in the series have come via home runs. The win gives New York four victories in its past six games.
