Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met senior government officials on Tuesday to review progress on the first phase of the national rural development initiative known as “Decent Life,” the presidency said. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy noted that the phase is implemented across 20 governorates and benefits around 20 million citizens.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi convened with senior officials to evaluate the “Decent Life” initiative, focusing on its first phase, which encompasses 27,332 projects with an average completion rate of about 90%. These projects address infrastructure and essential services such as sanitation, drinking water, energy, telecommunications, transport, roads, and community services, spanning 20 governorates, 52 districts, 333 local units, and 1,477 villages.
The discussion highlighted ongoing implementation challenges and strategies to finish the remaining projects on schedule. Preparations for the second phase were also covered, including initiatives in sanitation, water, natural gas, fiber-optic communications, healthcare facilities, ambulance units under the universal health insurance system, and educational infrastructure. This phase will cover 20 governorates and 204 local units with around 14,500 projects, and work has already started in 245 villages.
Al-Sisi directed officials to hasten the first phase's completion, eliminate obstacles, and ensure funding to maximize citizen benefits. He emphasized meticulous preparation and high standards for the second phase's execution.
