The St. Louis Cardinals detailed a leadership transition on Wednesday during a press conference at Busch Stadium.
Bill DeWitt Jr., the club's principal owner and chairman since 1996, is stepping back from his role as CEO at age 84. His son, Bill DeWitt III, 58, will assume the CEO title while continuing to oversee baseball and business operations.
Anuk Karunaratne was named president of business operations. He previously served as senior vice president for business operations after joining from the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of the 2024 season.
Chaim Bloom, appointed president of baseball operations last September, also participated in the discussion. The team enters play with a 42-35 record atop the National League Wild Card standings.
DeWitt Jr. emphasized the organization's draft-and-build approach ahead of the Aug. 3 Trade Deadline. DeWitt III and Bloom noted the club's early success while stressing commitment to long-term goals.
