CIDG to probe Pampanga building collapse

A fact-finding team led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has been formed to investigate the collapse of a nine-story building under construction in Angeles City, Pampanga. The incident left four people dead and 16 others missing.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the team will bring in qualified engineers to determine the cause. The probe will target the building owner and contractor, who may face charges for allowing workers to sleep at the site, as well as city officials for possible lapses in inspections.

Remulla inspected the site with Central Luzon police director Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez. He assured families of the missing that search and rescue efforts continue. He clarified the operation remains focused on rescue, contrary to a Bureau of Fire Protection statement suggesting a shift to retrieval.

The team is tasked with gathering facts and filing criminal cases against those responsible.
