Elon Musk confirms Tesla FSD V14.2 for widespread release

Elon Musk has announced that Tesla's Full Self-Driving version 14.2 will enable a broad rollout to the public. The confirmation came in response to praise from an early tester highlighting improvements in the prior version. This update builds on recent advancements in Tesla's autonomous driving software.

On October 18, 2025, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed via a post on X that the company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software version 14.2 will support widespread use among Tesla owners. The statement responded to AI DRIVR, a longtime FSD tester, who shared positive feedback on version 14.1.2. "95% of the indecisive lane changes and braking have been fixed in FSD 14.1.2. I haven’t touched my steering wheel in two days. I think it’s time, Tesla AI," AI DRIVR wrote, gaining support from other Tesla drivers who noted substantial refinements.

Musk replied succinctly: "14.2 for widespread use." This exchange signals Tesla's plan to expand access to FSD V14 beyond early testers and select owners, following the initial rollout of version 14.1 last week. That debut marked a significant advancement, delivering smoother, more human-like driving in complex traffic, though some abrupt braking persisted.

Version 14.1.2 addressed these issues, introducing the "Mad Max" speed profile for higher speeds and more assertive lane changes. Tesla AI head Ashok Elluswamy explained that Mad Max mode targets congested daytime traffic, aiding daily commuters. Musk has teased further enhancements in versions 14.2 and 14.3, describing them as making the system "feel almost like it is sentient."

Additionally, Tesla's Cybertruck is slated to gain full FSD V14 capabilities this month, as confirmed by the company's AI chief. These rapid iterations reflect Tesla's reliance on end-to-end neural networks to advance toward unsupervised autonomy.
