The Argentine Alpine driver finished tenth in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix and will start from that position in Sunday's main race.
Franco Colapinto completed a solid day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. He advanced to Q3 and outqualified his teammate Pierre Gasly, who ended 14th.
The Argentine posted a time of 1:30.161 on his first Q3 run and held his place among the top ten. In Saturday's Sprint he had finished ninth after a strong start from 13th on the grid.
Colapinto told reporters: “Tuve confianza, pero no tenía los resultados. Después, por alguna razón, perdí bastante performance en las tres primeras carreras y ahora estamos de vuelta muy firmes”.
The starting grid for Sunday's main race places Colapinto in tenth, behind Arvid Lindblad and ahead of Nico Hulkenberg.
