Göta Court of Appeal lowers sentence for toddler kidnapping

Göta Court of Appeal has reduced the sentences for a couple convicted of kidnapping the man's two-year-old daughter in Jönköping.

The 25-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in prison and his girlfriend to three years. The Court of Appeal thus reduced the sentences from the district court's earlier ruling of eight and five years respectively.

The crime took place during the night of November 21, 2025. Several men broke into the mother's apartment, where the mother and her new husband were drugged, assaulted and tied with cable ties. The couple then took the girl and attempted to flee toward Copenhagen Airport.

The Court of Appeal deemed the crimes serious and planned over several months. The sentence was nevertheless lowered slightly because the overall penal value was considered lower than in the district court.
