Luan Lennon, a right-wing influencer and former candidate for city council in Rio de Janeiro, was arrested on Friday in central Rio. He and two other men are accused of staging a cell phone theft to film a video for social media.
According to police, the video was recorded by a law student from inside a car. Lennon reportedly left a phone on the seat of another vehicle with an open window and attempted to detain a passerby. The commotion drew locals who called the military police.
The three men were booked for making a false report. A fourth man, a parking attendant, remains at large. Lennon's team allegedly offered him 30 reais to encourage the staged theft.
The suspects' defense team has not been located so far.
