Ingenio La Cabaña requested liquidation after reorganization failed

Ingenio La Cabaña requested liquidation from Supersociedades on June 12, 2026, after missing the deadline for a reorganization agreement. The move sparked worker protests that blocked the Panamericana Highway in Villa Rica.

The sugar company, with over 80 years of operation in Guachené, Cauca, entered reorganization proceedings in May 2024 under Law 1116. However, proposals to restructure debts exceeding 314 billion pesos received no support from financial entities.

On June 12, 2026, the mill formally requested liquidation, citing macroeconomic, climatic factors and the sugar sector crisis. Manager Luis Enrique Saavedra Pardo had pointed in 2024 to La Niña effects, high debt and elevated interest rates.

In response, direct and indirect workers began an indefinite strike on June 16, 2026. They blocked the Panamericana Highway at the Villa Rica toll to demand pending salary payments and measures to prevent liquidation.

Supersociedades has not yet appointed a liquidator. The company requested immediate protection of its assets in northern Cauca against possible direct actions.
