Jambi Ministry Office restricts gadget use in madrasahs

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jambi Province has begun restricting gadget use in public and private madrasahs to protect children from online gambling and harmful digital content.

Head of the Jambi Provincial Religious Affairs Office Mahbub Daryanto said the policy took effect last week. All madrasahs in the province have been informed about the rules.

Mahbub stressed that students may still bring mobile phones to madrasahs. Devices are only allowed for learning activities and must be stored in designated places when not in use.

He noted concerns over children’s exposure to online gambling and criminal groups through digital spaces. The policy aims to direct technology use toward educational benefits.

The restrictions are expected to help students focus on lessons and reduce gadget dependence while at school.
