Jakarta, April 12, 2026 – Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officially named Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo (GSW) and his aide Dwi Yoga Ambal (YOG) as suspects in a corruption extortion case. The designation followed a sting operation (OTT) in Tulungagung Regency, East Java.
KPK Enforcement and Execution Deputy Asep Guntur Rahayu stated that GSW allegedly received Rp2.7 billion from extorting local officials. GSW demanded up to Rp5 billion from 16 regional apparatus organizations (OPD), ranging from Rp15 million to Rp2.8 billion, using resignation letters to control subordinates.
The OTT yielded Rp335.4 million in cash, four pairs of Louis Vuitton shoes valued at Rp129 million, and electronic evidence. The suspects are held for the first 20 days at KPK's Gedung Merah Putih branch detention center.
Wearing an orange KPK detainee vest, Gatut Sunu Wibowo briefly said, "Mohon maaf," or "I apologize," as he was led out early Sunday morning, ignoring media questions. They are charged under Article 12 letter e or 12B of Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law 20/2001 and Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1/2023.
