Neil Diamond announces final Rick Rubin album 'Wild At Heart'

Neil Diamond has announced 'Wild At Heart', his third and final collaboration with producer Rick Rubin. The album features tracks originally recorded during 2008 sessions, with a release set for May 8. Diamond shared the title track alongside the news.

Neil Diamond has revealed details of 'Wild At Heart', marking his third and final album with Rick Rubin. This follows their previous collaborations, 2005’s ‘12 Songs’ and 2008’s ‘Home Before Dark’, which achieved critical and commercial success. The new album's tracks were initially recorded during the ‘Home Before Dark’ sessions. Diamond revisited the material, resulting in nine songs released for the first time, plus an alternate take of ‘Forgotten’ from the earlier album. It will appear on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms via Capitol/UMe on May 8, with limited edition coloured vinyl and 2CD versions available. Diamond commented: “My work with Rick was a labor of love, and I’m so gratified that these songs will finally be set free into the world to complete our trilogy of work.” The recording sessions featured keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, along with guitarists Smokey Hormel and Matt Sweeney. The tracklist includes: ‘Wild At Heart’, ‘You Can’t Have It All’, ‘Talking It To Death’, ‘Shine On’, ‘The Secret You’, ‘You Never Know’, ‘You’re Getting To Me’, ‘You Still Look Good To Me’, ‘You’re My Favorite Song’, and ‘Forgotten’. Over his five-decade career, Diamond has sold more than 130 million albums and notched nearly 40 Top 40 singles, including the 1969 hit ‘Sweet Caroline’. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2018 and retired from touring that year, though he performed ‘Sweet Caroline’ in 2022 during the curtain call of the Broadway musical 'A Beautiful Noise' about his life. The musical drama 'Song Sung Blue', starring Hugh Jackman and an Oscar-nominated Kate Hudson, centers on a Neil Diamond tribute band.
