Opposition leaders joined activist Sonam Wangchuk on the 19th day of his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Thursday.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite fast since June 28, 2026, at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. He joined a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak row.
Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal joined Wangchuk on the 19th day of the fast on Thursday. He called Wangchuk a great educationist who had worked tirelessly for the country and Ladakh.
The Congress also extended support after initial silence. General secretary KC Venugopal said the party would confront the government and demand the minister's resignation. Other leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, and Kerala Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan backed Wangchuk.
On July 16 the Delhi High Court stated that the life of any citizen is precious and whatever medical intervention is needed should be provided.
