A person has become trapped in a loading machine after a rockfall at the Kristineberg mine near Lycksele. Rescue teams and mine staff are working to dig out the individual from a depth of one thousand meters.
The rockfall occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. A man is trapped inside the cab of a loading machine with several hundred tons of stone having fallen.
Rescue services have contact with the person who is awake and able to speak. Work to dig out the machine was estimated at 10 p.m. to take another three to four hours.
Boliden which operates the mine describes the event as very unusual. Communications chief Klas Nilsson says the company is cooperating with rescue services and will launch an investigation.
Police are on site conducting initial investigative measures. The mine is located in Lycksele municipality.
