President Lee Jae Myung departed Tuesday for Turkey to attend the NATO summit before heading to Mongolia.
President Lee Jae Myung departed Tuesday from Seoul Air Base in Seongnam, south of Seoul, aboard the presidential aircraft bound for Ankara. Leaders of NATO's 32 member countries, including U.S. President Donald Trump, are gathering for the summit from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Lee will attend at the invitation of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and will meet the NATO chief shortly after arrival. He will also meet representatives of Japan, Australia and New Zealand, which together with South Korea form the Indo-Pacific Four.
Later Tuesday, Lee is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at a defense industry forum titled "Shared Values, Stronger Industrial Base." On Wednesday he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders.
From Thursday to Saturday, Lee will pay a state visit to Mongolia at the invitation of President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, beginning with a summit to declare a "golden era of South Korea-Mongolia relations."
