Trade minister to visit Mexico next week to expand FTA outreach

Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo will visit Mexico next week to broaden outreach for resuming free trade agreement negotiations with the country. The trip aims to address challenges facing Korean companies amid recent shifts in Mexican trade policy.

Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo announced on Friday that he will visit Mexico next week. He plans to meet with the secretary of economy and lawmakers to push for the swift resumption of bilateral free trade agreement talks.

“Our companies have been facing considerable challenges with recent changes in Mexico's trade policy,” Yeo said. He described the Korea-Mexico FTA as an urgent task to restore export competitiveness and create a stable business environment.

Mexico has served as a key manufacturing hub for Korean firms, which import parts and export finished goods to North America under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Heightened uncertainties now stem from the upcoming USMCA review and new tariffs on non-FTA imports.
