In Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, the suspicious death of 25-year-old Monika alias Roli Dubey has been revealed as murder by her 4-year-old son, who accused his father and aunt of assault. The child's statement suggests it was not a suicide. Police are awaiting the postmortem report.
The death of Monika alias Roli Dubey, who married Shivam Dubey on February 26, 2020, in Jhansi's Nagarriya Kuwa neighborhood, has shocked the family. The couple has a 4-year-old son, Om, and disputes arose over the child's school fees and expenses. Shivam worked a private job and had been in Bangalore for two months, returning three days prior.
On Tuesday night, an argument over money was pacified by sister-in-law Komal Pandey over the phone. Wednesday morning at 10 AM, Monika called with video, showing abuse from her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. She placed the phone by the window; the sister-in-law pushed her, leading to beating by husband and sister-in-law. When Komal asked 'why are you beating her,' the call was cut.
At noon, Shivam called saying Monika had ingested poison, but they delayed hospital visit until 4 PM, where her condition was reported serious. Komal's family arrived Thursday at 7 AM, halting the funeral preparations and calling 112. The sister-in-law had fled.
Om stated, 'They gave poison to mamma, aunt and papa beat her a lot... We saw their fight. Papa was beating mamma and aunt also hit her. Now mummy is dead.' City Kotwali in-charge Vidyasagar said Monika took poison after the fight, died at home after hospital return. The body was sent for postmortem; no formal complaint filed yet. The family demands justice.
