Athletic Club will debut its new kit next Saturday at the Bernabéu. The jersey features a map of Euskal Herria that includes Navarra and has drawn criticism from Navarra's right-wing parties.
Athletic Club presented this week the kit it will use next season. The design includes seven red stripes representing the provinces of Euskal Herria and a map on the back of the neck that replaces the previous mini ikurriña.
UPN president Cristina Ibarrola has sent letters to Real Federación Española de Fútbol president Rafael Louzán, Athletic president Jon Uriarte, and Navarra president María Chivite. Ibarrola requests removal of the map because she views it as projecting a controversial territorial conception that places Navarra within a reality alien to its institutional framework.
The Navarra government has replied that official symbols are not compromised because Athletic is a private entity. First vice president Javier Remírez stated that it is up to the institution to claim its own emblems.
