Authorities address commission on flights carrying Haitian minors

The head of Chile's National Migration Service and a PDI deputy director presented details on Haitian children entering the country between 2022 and 2025.

Frank Sauerbaum, director of the National Migration Service, told the Family Commission of the Chamber of Deputies on Monday about 45 charter flights that carried Haitian minors.

The figures show 44,047 family reunification requests from Haiti between 2022 and 2026, resulting in 17,354 benefits granted to minors.

Ricardo Gatica, PDI deputy director, said the institution filed complaints in April and October 2024 over unusual situations detected during entries.

Gatica added that 52 of the 64 minors cited in a preliminary Comptroller report have been located and that investigations are ongoing.
