CAA signs Greta Gerwig ahead of Narnia after Barbie

CAA has signed filmmaker Greta Gerwig, known for directing the blockbuster Barbie, as she prepares to work on a Narnia adaptation for Netflix. The agency announced the deal exclusively through Deadline. Gerwig previously was represented by UTA.

Greta Gerwig, who transitioned from acting to directing major films, has joined CAA. She follows her success with Barbie, which earned over $1.4 billion worldwide and received eight Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture, along with a win for Original Song. That movie contributed to the Barbenheimer phenomenon that revitalized theaters post-Covid, as first reported by Deadline in their exclusive coverage of the signing. Gerwig had been with UTA before this move, while her management team at Entertainment 360, Narrative, and JSSK remains unchanged. Her career highlights include her 2017 directorial debut Lady Bird, which earned Oscar nods for Directing and Original Screenplay. She later wrote and directed Little Women, securing six Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture and her Adapted Screenplay. Gerwig's acting roles span early indie films like Hanna Takes The Stairs and Nights and Weekends, which she co-wrote and co-directed, to Greenberg with Ben Stiller, and acclaimed performances in Frances Ha, earning a Golden Globe nomination, as well as Jackie and 20th Century Women. Now, Gerwig has written the script for Netflix's Narnia adaptation based on C.S. Lewis novels. The film stars Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Emma Mackey, and Meryl Streep voicing Aslan. It will hit IMAX theaters on November 26 before streaming globally on Netflix on Christmas Day.
