Canadian ambassador stresses sea access for sustainable Ethiopian growth

At a discussion marking 60 years of Ethiopia-Canada relations at Addis Ababa University, Canadian Ambassador Nicolas Simard stated that sea access is essential for sustainable Ethiopian economic growth. Canada supports Ethiopia's peaceful diplomatic efforts with neighbors to achieve this goal, he added.

The event at Addis Ababa University on Miazia 7, 2018 E.C., commemorated 60 years of bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Canada.

Ambassador Simard remarked, "To make Ethiopia's economic growth sustainable, sea access is necessary." He noted that the international community praises Ethiopia's diplomatic efforts to resolve border tensions peacefully.

Canada admires Ethiopia's leadership in renewable energy and is focusing on air transport reforms, the ambassador said. Last year alone, Canada invested 265 million dollars in Ethiopia, positioning it as Africa's leading development partner.

The university has longstanding collaborations with Canadian institutions in health, education, and research, fostering Ethiopian professionals. Ethiopians in Canada, including diaspora and their descendants, contribute across sectors like engineering, business, and sports, strengthening bilateral relations.
