China reports improved water use efficiency in 2025

The Ministry of Water Resources reported continued gains in water-use efficiency for 2025, with consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP down 4.5 percent year on year.

The ministry's bulletin showed total water resources reached 2.72 trillion cubic meters in 2025, with total use at 594.45 billion cubic meters.

Domestic use accounted for 15.8 percent, industrial use 16 percent and agricultural use 62 percent.

The figures reflect efficiency gains across sectors during the year.
