The Independent National Union of Colegio de Bachilleres Workers (SINTCB) launched a strike on Thursday, March 19, closing all 20 campuses and suspending activities until further notice. The union accuses violations of the collective contract and delays in releasing positions. The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) expressed willingness to dialogue and review the petition list.
The Colegio de Bachilleres officially entered strike in the early hours of Thursday, March 19, following the SINTCB announcement on the night of Wednesday, March 18, approved by a majority of workers via vote. This results in the total suspension of classes and activities at its 20 campuses, with control of documents, records, and classrooms in union hands until resolution. There are no in-person classes that day, and events like excellence ceremonies at the Aragón campus will be rescheduled. The institution no longer requires the Comipems exam for entry and has regulated passage to the UAM. Union demands include alleged violations of the collective contract and delays in position releases. The SEP issued a statement noting that the Colegio de Bachilleres implemented actions over the last two years, such as improvements to administrative staff income, progressive salary homogenization with retroactive increases, regularization of 477 teachers, promotion and recategorization processes, training programs for teachers and directors, strengthening of internal regulations, and improvements in material, technological, and organizational conditions. The SEP will review the petition list in accordance with the legal framework. “The Institution maintains full willingness to continue working tables that allow building responsible, viable, and sustainable agreements, always prioritizing institutional stability and the best interest of the educational community,” stated the Colegio de Bachilleres.
