Valencian teachers maintain indefinite strike after meeting without salary agreement

Teachers' unions have decided to continue the indefinite strike of Valencian teachers after deeming the Education Department's proposal insufficient in Thursday's meeting. Negotiations will resume next Monday without including a salary increase for now.

The unions STEPV, CCOO PV, UGT-PV, CSIF and ANPE have kept the indefinite strike that began last Monday. During the sectoral board meeting in Valencia, gathered teachers called for the resignation of regional minister Carmen Ortí and shouted slogans such as “vergonya”.

The proposal presented by the Department includes progressive ratio reductions, administrative simplification and thermal comfort plans, but excludes salary recovery. Ortí explained that work will continue over the weekend to bring a more complete document on Monday 18 May.

The unions have demanded that the pay issue, aimed at recovering the 20 % loss in purchasing power, be included in the talks. They warned that without a salary offer they see no need for further meetings.
