The Jakarta Provincial Government has sealed two padel courts for operating without proper building permits, amid resident complaints about noise. The actions follow similar enforcement against another facility earlier in the week. Officials emphasize the need for compliance to maintain environmental standards.
The Jakarta Provincial Government sealed the Fourth Wall padel court in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, due to its lack of building permits and ongoing noise disturbances to nearby residents. This followed warnings issued in November 2025 and earlier that day. Andy Lazuardy, Head of the South Jakarta Sub-Department of Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning, and Land, stated, "The building does not have a permit but continues to operate. There have also been noise complaints from nearby residents, leading to its sealing until the requirements are met."
The day before, on Monday, March 2, 2026, authorities sealed MMT Padel in Kembangan, West Jakarta, for similar reasons. West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah noted that the facility cannot resume activities until permits are complete, adding, "We continue to regulate according to procedures, including padel buildings located in RT/RW areas." The General Manager of MMT Padel, Doris, explained that licensing efforts began in June 2025 but require revisions to technical drawings and levy details.
These sealings come after the closure of Star Padel in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on February 26, 2026, prompted by resident complaints in Kayu Putih Village about late-night noise. Data from the Jakarta Office of Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land indicates 397 padel courts citywide, with 185 lacking approval. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung affirmed strict enforcement, saying, "Order for development in Jakarta is also important, including green open spaces that are not permitted to be used for padel courts."
Despite the crackdown, Pramono had previously highlighted padel's potential for sports tourism during the DYA Community Padel Tournament opening on October 1, 2025, describing it as a way to foster community ties and a healthy lifestyle. Operators like Fourth Wall plan to add soundproofing to address concerns and resume operations once compliant.
