Jesús Sesma accepts PVEM challenge for 2030 in Mexico City

Jesús Sesma, PVEM leader in Mexico City, announced on Monday that he accepts the challenge to run for head of government in 2030. The announcement came during the launch of the ‘Guardianes Verdes’ project, involving 35,000 followers for the 2027 elections. The party will compete without alliances in the capital.

Jesús Sesma, coordinator of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) bench in the Mexico City local Congress, appeared on Monday at Jardín Pushkin in the Roma neighborhood for the launch of the ‘Guardianes Verdes’. This project includes the first 35,000 followers in the party's strategy for the 2027 elections in the capital.

At the event, Sesma stated: “I accept the challenge for 2030, no one backs down here, the Green Party grows here, the Green Party will win”. He has promoted initiatives on environment and animal welfare in the capital Congress.

The PVEM chose to compete without coalitions in Mexico City, breaking from previous alliances such as with Morena. This strategy aims to test its electoral strength independently, though specialists warn of risks against more established parties.

Sesma aims to capitalize on the green vote in sustainability and urban policies, positioning himself as the virtual candidate for head of government.

Mexico's Green Ecologist Party (PVEM) announced it will run without alliance with Morena for the San Luis Potosí governorship in 2027, with Senator Ruth González Silva positioned as its top candidate. The move stems from PVEM's strength in the state and Morena's weakness, labeled the third force by González herself. It comes amid nepotism restrictions blocking her Morena candidacy.
