Fifteen people died in a fire at a commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday. Police have arrested four people including the building owner.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted a two-member Special Investigation Team. It includes Amrit Abhijat and Praveen Kumar. The team must submit its report within seven days.
Police arrested Virendra Shukla, Tushank Krishna Jaiswal, Ram Krishna Upadhyay and Suresh Kumar Sahu. Four officials have also been suspended.
The building had no emergency exit and the biometric system blocked escape. The fire is believed to have started from a short circuit in the AC duct. A demolition order was issued against the building in 2016 for unauthorised construction and later withdrawn.
