Two families in Malapatan, Sarangani, are mourning the loss of loved ones who perished from the magnitude 7.8 quake that struck southern Mindanao on Monday.
In Malapatan, 13-year-old Terrence Segafu died in a landslide while walking home from school. His mother Floregen Segafu said the day had started normally before the quake struck.
Near the shore, Rose and Jimmy Batino were swept away by waves triggered by the quake. Rose, 69, was the sister of 79-year-old Norma Cabeles, who called her a source of strength.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office report as of 9 a.m. Thursday, the death toll in Sarangani has risen to 20, with 150 injured. Search continues for 12 missing persons.
