Maxine Wahome to learn fate in 2026

Safari Rally driver Maxine Wahome will learn her fate in 2026 in the trial for murdering her partner Asad Khan. The court has returned her seized phone after finding no evidence linking it to his death. The case reveals an allegedly abusive relationship between them.

Maxine Wahome, a prominent Safari Rally driver, will learn her fate between January and March 2026 in the trial for murdering her partner Asad Khan. Judge Lilian Mutende, who heard the case for two years and nine months, stated she needs time to evaluate the evidence and lawyers' submissions. Meanwhile, police returned her phone, seized on December 12, 2022, following the judge's order, after forensic analysis found no evidence linking it to Asad's death.

The violence occurred on December 11-12, 2022, in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, starting when Maxine returned home late from a party. She had attended an event organized by her sister and texted Asad to inform him. Asad asked her to buy Jameson whiskey, which he mixed with drugs like Ketamine and diabetes medication, making him feel invincible like 'Spiderman'.

Upon her midnight return, Asad was drunk and initiated the assault, slapping Maxine and insulting her. Neighbor Hassan Oyugi heard Asad say, “This dog, get out of this house,” while Maxine softly replied, “I will leave.” Maxine fled and locked herself on the balcony, calling her parents. Asad kicked the window and door barefoot, cutting his leg on glass and severing a major artery. He bled profusely and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital, then Avenue Hospital, where he died six days later from Septicemia.

Initially, his brother Adil Khan claimed Maxine injured Asad, but it was determined he self-inflicted the wounds. Phone forensics showed 76,000 communications between them on December 11-12, 2022, but no murder evidence. Cpl Diana Angote admitted submitting false statements about Maxine's residence and employment. Defense lawyers Philip Murgor and Steve Kimathi have sought her acquittal, with prosecutor Sarah Agweno given 15 days to respond. Maxine denies the charges and is out on bail. Neighbors revealed an abusive and toxic relationship between them.
