A parliamentary committee led by Nishikant Dubey has praised the India AI Impact Summit as a success while condemning protests by Youth Congress workers. The resolution passed despite opposition from several parties. The event featured global tech leaders and significant investments.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, chaired by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, held its first meeting after the India AI Impact Summit. The committee passed a resolution that commended the event organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. It described the summit as a grand success, noting participation from figures like Sundar Pichai and Sam Altman, and highlighted Google's commitment of 200 billion investments.
The resolution stated: “The Committee would like to place on record its appreciation for successfully organising the India AI Impact Summit by the Ministry of Electronics & IT under the able leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.”
However, the committee also condemned an "unfortunate incident" at the summit venue on February 20, referring to shirtless protests by Youth Congress workers. Dubey remarked that the summit, led by the Prime Minister, surpassed events like those in France, and questioned the opposition's actions during the event.
The resolution faced pushback, with six lawmakers from Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and DMK voting against it. Ten MPs supported the measure on the summit. Dubey noted that passing a resolution by vote is rare in such committees. He contrasted this with the BJP's approach to past protests, such as those after the Commonwealth Games, emphasizing participation first.
This development united opposition parties against the resolution, which also praised the Prime Minister's role.
