Seizure of thousand flasks of banned bedbug insecticide

France’s DGCCRF seized over a thousand flasks of the banned insecticide “Sniper 1000”, prohibited due to its dichlorvos content. The product is linked to rising intoxications, including four deaths according to Anses. Seizures occurred in 2023 and 2024 amid probes into significant trafficking, especially in Île-de-France.

Anses issued an alert on Monday about “Sniper 1000”, a bedbug insecticide banned in France due to highly toxic dichlorvos. The agency recorded over 206 intoxications from 2018 to June 2023, surging to 351 cases from early 2023 to end 2025. Of these, six in ten affected women, most mild but one in ten moderate severity, with four fatalities.

DGCCRF stated it inspected over a thousand businesses in its investigations. In 2023, “nearly 1130 flasks of Sniper 1000 and Shooter 1000” were seized, and more than 530 online listings removed. Checks continued into 2025-2026, leading to the withdrawal of over 275,000 hazardous consumer products overall.

Anses highlighted an “important traffic” especially in Île-de-France, following its alert on this “growing number of intoxications”.
