The Detroit Tigers are promoting outfielder Max Clark, their top prospect, for his major league debut in Friday’s series opener at the Athletics. The 21-year-old has spent the 2026 season at Triple-A Toledo after a strong July performance. The move has not yet been officially announced by the club.
Clark, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 draft, slashed .276/.368/.434 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 90 games at Toledo. He showed improved power in recent months, hitting nine home runs since June 1, including five in July.
The Tigers need to clear roster spots on their 26- and 40-man rosters to add Clark. He will join fellow 2023 draft pick Kevin McGonigle, who made the Opening Day roster and is a candidate for American League Rookie of the Year.
Detroit has dealt with multiple outfield injuries this season, including Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling. The call-up comes as the team evaluates options ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline, with ace Tarik Skubal potentially available.
Clark said earlier this summer that his development path has included ups and downs. “It’s a process,” he said. “There’s a reason it’s development and there’s a reason it isn’t linear.”
