Transavia Boeing's cockpit windshield cracks mid-flight

A Transavia flight from Biarritz to Marrakech turned back on Saturday after the cockpit windshield cracked. The Boeing 737-800 made an emergency landing at Biarritz following an unidentified impact. Passengers described highly tense moments.

Transavia flight TO4764, a Boeing 737-800, departed Biarritz Airport at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday bound for Marrakech. After about thirty minutes in the air, near Saragossa in Spain, an impact of undetermined origin caused the cockpit windshield to crack. The pilots immediately donned oxygen masks, and the crew informed passengers of the decision to return to Biarritz.

On board, around fifty passengers endured frightening moments. One told Sud Ouest: “I saw myself dying,” still traumatized by the high-altitude incident. A female passenger added: “Frankly, it was about to burst; it wasn’t just a small impact. The pilot wasn’t well,” noting his trembling voice as he announced the cracking windshield and turnaround.

Upon landing, travelers observed six or seven cracks along the cockpit glass. An inspection confirmed multiple damages on the forward bay. Technical authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the deterioration.

Transavia responded in a statement: “The crew immediately applied the required safety procedures. All customers were handled in line with the company’s policy: accommodation followed by re-routing the next day.” The airline emphasizes that the safety of its clients and crew remains its absolute priority. This event follows the evacuation of another Transavia aircraft at Biarritz the previous day due to a fuel leak.
