Uppsala to introduce parental support without needs assessment from August

From August 2026 parents in Uppsala will receive help from parental supporters without a prior needs assessment. The Social Committee aims to make the support more accessible for families with placed children or at risk.

The Social Committee decided to introduce parental supporters as a new measure. Parents can thus receive direct help without first applying and having their need assessed.

The intervention forms part of the network center decided by the committee in December 2025. The goal is to gather expertise for coordinated support to placed children, their networks and biological parents.

Hanna Victoria Mörck (V), chair of the Social Committee, states that social services support must be easy to reach in a crisis. The support includes crisis aid, parenting advice, information on rights and help with documents and meetings.

The new measure is planned to be available from August 2026.
