US agencies pledge support for Bishoftu airport project

Ethiopia has secured major backing from US government agencies, finance institutions and companies for the Bishoftu International Airport construction. The institutions announced support via the Washington financial roadmap. Officials described it as one of Africa's flagship aviation projects.

Addis Ababa – High-level US officials have expressed firm confidence in Ethiopia's economic transformation agenda and growth prospects.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide stated that the Bishoftu airport will act as a hub for trade and investment. He noted it strengthens bilateral ties between the two countries and opens broad business opportunities for American firms beyond economic reforms.

Ethiopian Airports Enterprise CEO Mesfin Tasew said the partnership with US institutions helps meet rising demand for international transport. Africa's Development Bank Finance Director President Hassatu Selle highlighted the project's strong foundation, feasibility and regional impact. She added that it enhances competitiveness and fosters sustainable development across Africa.
