A video posted by state lawmaker Eduardo Suplicy (PT) on Friday (April 10) is circulating on social media, depicting military police restraining a woman on São Paulo's Avenida Paulista. The woman is seen screaming for help and saying she does not want to be taken away, with her daughter crying nearby.
The Military Police stated they were called to a dispute at an office. The woman, an ex-employee unhappy with her severance pay, damaged a glass door and threatened staff. During the approach, she showed "strong agitation and active resistance," prompting the use of handcuffs for safety. The restraints were removed after she calmed down in the patrol vehicle.
The incident was forwarded to the 78th Police District (Jardins), where a report was filed for suspected threat and property damage. Suplicy described the case as "unacceptable" and claimed police "violently assaulted a woman working as a daily cleaner," who was seeking payment for services rendered.
The Public Security Secretariat had not responded to inquiries at the time of reporting. The episode arises amid discussions on police conduct, following the death of Thawanna da Silva Salmázio during an approach on April 3.
