Volkswagen is considering a radical reduction of up to 100,000 jobs worldwide. This emerges from internal plans presented by CEO Oliver Blume to the board.
The management had already agreed at the end of 2024 to cut 50,000 jobs by the end of the decade at Volkswagen, Audi and the software unit Cariad. The new plans now envisage doubling this number.
According to reports by Handelsblatt and Manager Magazin, Blume is said to have presented the board with a matrix showing in which areas and at which locations jobs could be cut faster or slower. The exact figure of 100,000 jobs does not appear directly in it.
Four German plants could be closed completely, Manager Magazin reported. Internal figures show how far the group has already come with the previous cuts.
A commentary warns that pure cost reductions are not enough to win back customers. Blume needs the support of all power centers in the group for a central decision.
