Williams has announced the appointment of Piers Thynne as a key leader, with the former McLaren chief operating officer set to join the team in August. The move comes as part of a broader effort to strengthen the Grove-based squad amid recent struggles.
Last week Williams confirmed Thynne’s hiring along with other senior figures from Mercedes and Alpine. Thynne began his McLaren career in the late 2000s and rose through roles including head of programme management and operations director before serving as chief operating officer from 2023 to 2025. He contributed to the team’s turnaround from ninth in the 2017 constructors’ championship to world titles in 2024 and 2025.
