A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck on Monday, May 25 at 17:52 with its epicenter 20 kilometers northeast of Calama. The quake was felt across four northern regions and caused power outages and mining halts.

The National Seismological Center reported the hypocenter at a depth of 114 kilometers. The quake reached intensity VI on the Mercalli scale in communes including Antofagasta, Tocopilla, Mejillones and Sierra Gorda.

At least five aftershocks below magnitude 4.3 were recorded. SHOA ruled out any tsunami risk.
