Air force officer training vital for institution's survival

Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdasa stated that training capable officers to enhance the air force's command capacity is a survival matter for the institution. Senior officers received guidance during a training session at the Air Force Command College.

Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdasa, the chief of staff of the Ethiopian Air Force, has described the training of capable officers to bolster the force's command capacity as a critical survival issue for the institution. This statement came during a five-week military command training at the Air Force Academy in Addis Ababa on Megabit 2, 2018.

The general advised senior officers to serve as examples through their professional history, build mental and psychological strength, and maintain loyalty and composure in challenging situations. He emphasized that leaders can deliver accurate decisions in unexpected scenarios by evaluating psychological and technical conditions prior to mobilizing their units for action.

Currently, the air force faces shortages of qualified pilots, engineers, and technicians, according to Lt. Gen. Merdasa. He noted that such training develops a competent command structure to strengthen the institution. Senior officers were instructed to uphold discipline and lead by example in all respects to inspire and empower their teams.
